Only a day after saying the Red Sox weren't looking to make any more big moves, they make a blockbuster trade. The Red Sox trade their first round pick (1.10) and just acquired 1B Paul Konerko to the Encinitas Beach Bums for Justin Morneau and a 3rd round pick (3.12). "Being able to add Justin Morneau to the roster is a huge deal. He is an elite 1B who will impact our team for 3 years." said Owner Richard Chase.
A lot of speculation was going around on who the Red Sox were targetting at pick 1.10 in the draft. Names like Felix Hernandex, Jon Lester and Adam Jones were being thrown around. With this trade we will never know who the Red Sox were really looking to pick. "Justin Morneau would have been a top 2 pick in this years draft. To get him for pick 1.10 is a no brainer. We were looking at a few guys at 1.10 but none of them would impact like Morneau will." said Chase.
The Red Sox have been the most active making deals so far this offseason. This team is looking completely different then when Owner Richard Chase took over. What was looking like a rebuilding season for the Red Sox is now looking like a potential contender for the eMLB championship.

Rochester Red Sox Winter Meetings Day 3 Updates
It was a busy first day for the Rochester Red Sox during the Winter Meetings. Four deals made on opening day made the Red Sox the most active team to start the meetings. Too a lot of people's suprise the Red Sox were able to deal Mike Aviles and Carlos Carrasco to free up roster space. Not only were they able to move those two players but they also didn't have to pay to move those players. "Moving those guys and actually getting draft pick compensation was a big deal to us. Even though the draft picks we acquired weren't great its nice to have the open roster spots for new contracts." said Owner Richard Chase.
In a very late Sunday night move the Red Sox made another big splash by acquiring 1B Paul Konerko from the South Texas Heat for pick 4.10. With a light 1B pool in this years draft getting a player of Konerko's ability for a 4th round pick is a great move. "We didn't feel Kevin Youkilis or Joey Votto would fall to 1.10 so we decided to look into trading for a 1B. We wanted someone with above average power and Paul Konerko gives us that. After the top two 1B in this draft we didn't see anyone else that could do that, especially in round 4." said Chase.
The question now is, are the Red Sox done making moves? "We don't have any open talks right now regarding any players or picks. To say we are done in these Winter Meetings would be ridiculous but we aren't anticipating anything big at this point. We are always looking to improve our team though so if an offer comes our way that does that we will listen." said Chase.
Looking at potential players in the draft it will be interesting who the Red Sox will go with at pick 1.10. A lot of speculation around the league has the Red Sox taking a top pitcher with that pick. Such a move would go against Red Sox owner Richard Chase's usual gameplan. Some internal talk has speculated the Red Sox may be looking to move down in the draft if a quality bat isn't left.

2010 Winter Meetings Day 1
It was a busy start to the 2010 Winter Meetings. The Rochester Red Sox finalized 2 trades that they had unofficially agreed upon before the start of meetings.
The Red Sox send Manny Ramirez and Matt Wieters to the New Jersey Mets for Brian McCann, Scott Baker and a 9th round pick. Red Sox owner Richard Chase was very pleased with being able to officially announce this deal. "Its hard letting a young commodity like Wieters go to another team but being able to get McCann is huge. Adding Scott Baker to our rotation is also a great help. We expect big things from the two new comers." said Chase.
In the second deal made official the Rochester Red Sox send their 2nd round pick (2.10) to the Michigan Miracles for 2B Dan Uggla. This deal may puzzle some Red Sox fans because it goes against Chase's normal gameplan. With a low batting average Uggla moving to the Red Sox is a bit shocking. "Yes, Dan's batting average is lower then we usually like and normally we wouldn't be interested in a player like that. We feel that the low batting average is something we can overlook at this point because of the power numbers Dan provides. Only Chase Utley produces more power and for a 2nd round pick we feel its well worth it to add Uggla." Chase said.
With these 2 trades the Red Sox roster is looking a lot different then when the offseason started. With Hanley Ramirez, Brian McCann, Dan Uggla, Jacoby Ellsbury and Nick Markakis already on offense before the draft its an exciting timeto be a Red Sox fan. As always the Red Sox will be looking to make other moves during the meetings to improve their lineup even more. "We have nothing on the table right now but I don't think we are done yet." said Chase.

2010 Rochester Red Sox Winter Meetings Preview
With just a about a week to go before Winter Meetings open officially the Red Sox are heating up the trade talks. With one handshake deal already in place with the New Jersey Mets (Red Sox send Manny Ramirez and Matt Wieters to the Mets for Scott Baker, Brian McCann and a 9th round pick), rumors of other potential deals are heating up.
Talks have the Red Sox looking to move draft picks for veteran players. Numerous negotiations taking place have the Red Sox interested in a 2B, 3B and SP. Nothing is set and stone and the Red Sox owner is always looking to talk. Other needs for the team are 1B and a #3 SP. Red Sox owner said he isnt looking to deal the teams 1st round pick but is willing to move picks after that. The team is also looking to move Indians SP prospect Carlos Carrasco and/or Royals slated starting SS Mike Aviles in a move. Word around the organization is that they are willing to practically give them away in a deal.
Its sure to be an exciting first Winter Meetings for the Rochester Red Sox. The team that was taken over is sure to be shaken up before the draft. The team is being rebuilt but is expected to win right away. Owner, Richard Chase, looks forward to meeting with all the other owners and getting some deals done.
