After signing two players late last night the Red Sox were back to work today looking to get another player or two signed. Discussions with Desmond Jennings took up most of the day and so far nothing has been able to get done. But once talks broke down the Red Sox turned their attention to another player, Detroit SP Max Scherzer.
"Max is a young talented arm who we feel is about to hit his prime." said GM Chase. "We feel with the lineup Detroit has Max has 18-20 win potential. We also feel his ERA and WHIP will improve as his control continues to improve."
With the signing of Scherzer and likely extension of Dan Haren this gives the Red Sox a very strong top four of the rotation for the next two years. With that being sealed up you can expect the Red Sox to look at hitting early and often during next years draft. "We are obviously focusing on winning this year with the roster we have but you can never prepare too soon for the future either." said Chase. No truer words have ever been spoken.
Being a Tigers fan, I wouldn't expect any ERA improvements from a single Tigers pitcher this year because of the God awful defense behind them. A saving grace for Max is that he's a flyball pitcher and Jackson covers a lot of ground in center. I hope he pitches well for you
ReplyDeleteFrom what I have seen he has a bit more control with his pitches in spring training. He seems to be getting more groundballs as well with his sinker/2seamer. I think his stats improve but he may also lose some K's. His improved control will probably lead to more contact.
ReplyDeleteBad defense and errors = unearned runs. Wont hurt his ERA :)
Not bad defense really, insanely poor range. Peralta/Miggy on the left side of the infield is going to be rough to watch. Routine grounders may end up singles.
